The parables of Jesus are not the only stories in the Gospel meant to teach us lessons. The miracles of Jesus do the same thing. In Mark 1, Jesus encounters a desperate leper seeking healing. From this encounter though, we learn our own plight, our own desperation, and the goodness of Jesus to restore us completely.

We typically refer to Genesis 37-50 as the story of Joseph, but throughout this narrative of Joseph's life, Judah plays a significant role. In Genesis 49, as Jacob is dying, he calls his sons to his bedside to bless them and prophecy about God's blessing the nations through their family. A major focus of this blessing is Judah, the patriarch from which the Messiah will come, bringing endless celebration and joy through the establishment of his kingdom.

While this is not their true home, there is work for them to do and they will grow into a great nation as they wait for God to bring them to the land of promise. This Sunday we will examine the themes of this chapter and discover how they apply to us as we work while waiting for Christ's return.
