From Doubt to Distrust

Everyone deals with doubt. We learned in Genesis 15 that God is gracious to us, assuring us of his promises. But what happens when we allow our doubts to turn into sin? Genesis 16 teaches us what happens when we turn to expediency rather than waiting on the promises and purposes of God. 

God Dispels Our Doubts

If there's one thing true about our Christian life, it's that we all deal with doubts.  We doubt God and we doubt ourselves.  And Abram, the Father of the Faith, is no different.  Join us this Sunday for chapter 15 of Genesis where Abram voices his doubts to God and God responds in two amazing ways.

Assurance of the Promise

Last week, in Genesis 12, we saw the call of Abram and God's sevenfold promise to him. Abram obeys God's calling but quickly shows that he does not fully trust God's promises. In Genesis 13 and 14 we will see how Abram's faith increases as God deepens the trust and relationship between them. Join us this week as we discover faith-building truths about our God Most High!

The Call of Abram

Join us this Sunday as we move into the next section in Genesis, "God of Promises."  We'll begin by looking at the call of Abram in Genesis 12:1-9 to leave his country, his family, and his father's house. How does Abram respond to a call to "leave it all behind?" How would you respond to such a call?

Stairway To Heaven?

One of the most popular rock and roll songs of all time is Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven".  It came out over half a century ago and it describes "a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold, and she's buying a stairway to Heaven."  Understandably, that song caused a stir in the Christian community when it came out- we know we can't buy our way to Heaven.  This week, we look at a story that came out thousands of years ago describing a people who wanted to build a tower to reach Heaven, the Tower of Babel, in Genesis 11:1-9.  What was their purpose? What were they trying to achieve?  How did God respond?  And how should we, the Christian community, respond today? 

The Flood and the Fear of God

It’s easy to think of the story of Noah and the flood as little more than a good children’s Sunday school story. But Jesus, and the inspired authors of the New Testament, saw it as having much more significance than that. So, how did they think about the flood and how should we? That’s what we’re going to learn this Sunday as we explore the connections between the flood in Noah’s day and the coming judgment at the end of this age.

Understanding God’s Blessings

We often look to physical blessings when we look for God's hand on our lives but how often are we to see spiritual blessings for what they truly are? Join us Sunday as we look at the story of Cain and Abel and see how Abel's faith can be an encouragement to us today.

The Fall of Humanity

“The fall” refers to the moment that sin entered into the world through the first man, Adam. Because of Adam’s sin, the whole universe is corrupted. It is not what it was meant to be. We are not who we were meant to be. Without understanding what takes place in Genesis 3, not only will we fail to understand the world we live in, but we will fail to understand the rest of the Bible. Join us this Sunday as we learn about the practical and theological implications of Adam’s sin in the garden. 

God’s Good Design for Human Flourishing

God’s World is very good. 
But in order to experience its goodness, we must learn to operate according to his design. We must learn to live in his world on his terms. This Sunday we will look at Genesis chapter 2 and focus in on some of the ways God designed the world to operate. We will learn that it’s possible to become too attached to the world, but it’s also possible to become too detached. We’ll learn about the gift of human innovation and God’s design for gender. The Seven Days of Creation

The main point of last week's sermon on the creation account was that "By His powerful Word, the Almighty, Sovereign God spoke the cosmos into existence, investing it with purpose and destiny." 
Join us this Sunday as we see His day-by-day creation unfold.  We'll spend time looking at God's creation of mankind in His image and likeness.  Are these two descriptions saying the same thing twice?  Or are they different?
